Description: The Potamkin Prize recognizes the achievements of scientific researchers who do innovative work, find groundbreaking discoveries, and push forward the field of study in Pick’s, Alzheimer’s and related brain degenerative diseases.
The Potamkin family, in partnership with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Brain Foundation (ABF), would like to congratulate Dr. Vladimir Hachinski, this year’s recipient of The Potamkin Prize.
Dr. Vladimir Hachinski’s contributions to the field of brain research have been both groundbreaking and trendsetting. His clarification between Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia has opened the door to modern dementia research. He developed a powerful diagnostic scoring tool to help differentiate vascular from non-vascular dementias. The “Hachinski score” has become the standard for identifying the vascular, hence treatable components of cognitive impairment.
Dr. Hachinski is a Distinguished Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology at Western University, Canada. He has won numerous awards in recognition to his pioneering contributions to the field. He has been inducted in the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (2018) and the order of Canada, the country’s highest honor.
