Jean Brennan is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York. Her mediums are sculpture, installation and performance in a response to place—what we know about it, what lives there, and the built or natural features of site.

Inspired by ecology and thinkers like Donna Haraway, she considers how the poetics of visual form destabilize an anthropocentric view of the natural world. Recurring themes include a fascination with atmospheric forces, plants, phenomenology, color and the sublime. Her work takes the form of a lyrical essay loosely assembling scientific research, historical and pop culture references with personal reflection.

Jean received her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Sierra Nevada College in 2019. For her undergraduate degree, she studied World Literature and Cultural Studies at University of California, Santa Cruz. She also completed a six month certificate/residency with the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems in 2003.
