Description: I am currently an AI research scientist at Stellantis. I received my PhD in Applied Mathematics from a joint program between Meta AI (prev. Facebook AI Research) and Télécom Paris.
I am officially Dr. Yuan in Applied Mathematics jointly at Meta AI (formerly Facebook AI Research) and Télécom Paris . I recently defended my PhD thesis on March 17, 2023. My thesis director was François Roueff (Télécom Paris) and my supervisors were Alessandro Lazaric (Meta AI) and Robert M. Gower (Flatiron Institute).
Research My main research interests are reinforcement learning (RL) and large-scale stochastic optimization for machine learning. In particular, I focus on developing a fundamental understanding of the optimization methods used in RL and designing new efficient practical optimization algorithms to solve RL problems. Besides, I am passionate about deriving simple and elegant proofs in research. I rigorously check every single detail of the problem and try to explain my research as clearly as possible.
I am also a math enthusiast. Lately I am interested in using transformers to solve Olympiad math exercises and more general mathematical problems.
