In 1994, Congress passed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act — better known as the ‘94 Crime Bill.
It spent billions of dollars of our money on policing, jails, and prisons and contributed deeply to the current crises of police brutality, mass criminalization, incarceration, and surveillance — all of which disproportionately impact Black communities.
