St. Makarios the Great Orthodox Mission is a mission church of the Orthodox Church in America within the Diocese of the Midwest. The mission began in Hyde Park in 2008 as part of a ministry to students at the University of Chicago. We have since grown to include not only university students but also ecumenical friends, inquirers, and Orthodox Christians from across Chicagoland. The goal of St. Makarios Mission is to provide an Orthodox Christian presence and witness to the broader South Side community.
Whether you are an Orthodox Christian looking for a neighborhood parish, a spiritual seeker, or a curious inquirer, all are welcome! Come visit. See the beauty and profundity of our liturgy and sacramental life; the truth, wisdom, and light of Orthodox teachings; the gentle strength of our healing pastoral care for the person; and the generous liberality of our concern for our neighbor.
Join us for Liturgy in the upper room of the United Church of Hyde Park, located at the corner of 53rd and Blackstone (1448 E 53rd St, Chicago, IL 60615). Enter through the double green doors on Blackstone Avenue and follow the signs up the stairs.
