Groundwater meets more than a third of the Sacramento region’s water needs during a normal year, and even more during drought periods.
While groundwater is being critically depleted in other parts of the state, the Sacramento region’s groundwater aquifer is stable and sustainable.
The Sacramento Groundwater Authority was formed in 1998 to manage the groundwater basin in Sacramento County north of the American River.
