Selma is well-known for its historical attractions and for antiquing and ghost hunting. Historic churches dot the countryside, many of them built before 1925. The town is home to not one, but six different museums. The National Voting Rights Museum and Institute and the Slavery and Civil War Museum are nationally known.
The Old Town Historic District is home to over 1200 structures that were built in the 1820s. The famous Pettus Bridge can be found on Water Avenue, along with many antebellum buildings.
