The landing is very close, Java 8 is going to be released in just 5 days (March 18).
This is very exciting as after many years of controversy, Java will eventually have lambda expressions as part of the language. No more need to use anonymous inner classes with a single method to implement callbacks!
You can find the official list of all the new features on the OpenJdk site but other than closures, I’m also very excited about some other enhancements such as the Streams API, the new Date & Time API, and the removal of the Permgen space.
