The logging of Mahogany and other hardwood trees in Belize started with the Mayans and peaked during the British colonial period. These giants of the rainforest grew over 100 feet tall, above the canopy, along rivers and connecting basins of virgin forest. Thousands of old-growth trees were cut and floated downriver for export to England.
Many sank and became embedded at the bottom of rivers and were never recovered, until now. The silt, tannins and lack of oxygen at the river bottom preserved these fully, matured trees for over 100 years.
The hardiness of the wood, tight grain, warm, honey color makes hardwood such as Mahogany, Rosewood, Santa Maria an excellent choice for furniture, instrument makers, flooring, and milling. Our reclaimed logs are harvested by operators licensed under Belize’s Forestry Department, using environmentally friendly techniques which are compliant under the Convention of the Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and U.S. Lacey Act.
