Marilu Duque is a soon to be graduate from the Technological University Dublin with an M.A. in Criminology focused on Cybercrime, as part of the George J. Mitchell Scholars program. Recently, she graduated from the University of Michigan (UM), Ann Arbor -- School of Information (UMSI) where she successfully defended her thesis focused on local government cybersecurity threats to earn her M.S. in Information. Previously, she was a Technical (IT/Security) Intern at Synopsys, Graduate Student Instructor at UM,
Worked on the Information Security and SOC team within the Office of the President to ensure security protections of products for customers and vendors. Identified currently unprocessed data coming from company email traffic which could be used to identify threat actors. Used various data science packages to analyze this data to identify and evaluate potential streams of malicious data. Designed the summer 2021 intern t-shirt that was sent out to 600+ interns across the globe.
Assisting Professor Sarita Schoenebeck in SI 431 which examines the ways algorithms impact individuals and communities by investigating concepts of bias, discrimination, fairness, ethics, justice, and potential harms of emerging technologies. Hosting office hours, assisting with instructional preparation, assessment, and leading discussions in critical areas of this field such as AI, Data Science & Cybersecurity.
