Welcome to our website which we hope will give you a taste of life at St James’ Church, Islington, a modern catholic parish within the Church of England committed to exploring how to live like Jesus in the 21st century.
The Church was built in 1875 to serve the new houses being constructed to the south of Essex Road following the opening of New North Road in 1812 and the Regent Canal in 1820.
St James’ remains a spiritual oasis within this vibrant and ever-changing community. Here the new award-winning Packington Estate stands alongside the remodelled wharves of the Canal basin, the picturesque tree lined Colebrook Row, the completion of tall apartment blocks on City Road and the highly acclaimed rose beds of Arlington Square. In the 2011 census the population is given as 10,341. 30% are between the ages of 25 and 35.
