The town of Syracuse began as a water tank and a railroad side track in 1873. By 1888 it had a population of 1,300. Syracuse has always been a popular place to live, with many opportunities linked to the land; it lies along the Arkansas River making it one of the most productive areas for wheat, hay, corn, and milo.
