Justin Richards has been a freelance music producer and sound engineer for over twenty years. Having learned traditional, tape-based engineering skills, he then also became a fast and efficient user of Pro Tools and Logic. This led to him being known for his attention to detail alongside a practical, organic approach to making music.
As well as engineering and production work, Justin’s portfolio includes recording/editing for BBC radio, composing music for film/TV, solo output as the artist ‘Just’ and collaborative releases with ‘Messrs Kelly I.A. & Richards J.V.M.’. Currently, he bases his freelance work in the northwest of England, but his home studio is also fully capable for remote work, including mixing and audio repair. Justin also lectures in Music Technology at Salford University.
Adapting to new situations and new technology has allowed Justin’s work to continue with both musicians and organisations needing professional audio. Multi-media products often neglect quality sound, and to address this issue Justin offers the service of cleaning up and re-balancing audio for picture or broadcast. The facility to remotely record and mix has also benefitted the musicians he works with.
