It was the Earl of March’s grandfather, the ninth Duke of Richmond, known to everyone as Freddie March who brought motor racing to Goodwood. A renowned amateur race driver himself, after the Second World War he created a motor circuit from the track that ran around the perimeter of the airfield at Goodwood. This airfield had been used during Battle of Britain when it was home to two RAF Spitfire Squadrons. The Revival opened fifty years later on 18th September 1998, when the Earl of March drove around the circuit in the same Bristol 400 in in which his grandfather had opened the track. It’s now the world’s most celebrated historic motor racing event and celebrates the romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be.
