My mother was an amazing woman. As an expatriate, in Seoul, Korea, she had the opportunity to be in charge of all the American Red Cross volunteers for East Asia, and function as the project manager on a 16 unit townhome construction project - while finally finishing her college degree.
But when she returned to the States, she spent the rest of her career operating at a much lower level - as an administrative assistant. It still upsets me when I think of the wasted opportunity for the world to be led by her expertise and strength - and yet I found myself headed down the same road.
