For many years, I didn't believe in therapy. I thought friends and family could support us through difficulties, and didn't see the need for professional therapists.
But my views changed when a close friend went through a very painful period in his life, and had counselling. I saw how therapy transformed him, and began to think differently about it. I realised that, while the support of loved ones may be sufficient for some, for many it is invaluable to talk to someone objective, who is professionally trained to help.
I also offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and others in the helping profession. I see the supervisory relationship as one that enables and encourages autonomy along with the development of an insightful, competent, reflective and self directed practitioner.
