“Canada Day London, the world’s largest international celebration of Canadian culture, returns to Trafalgar Square. This year’s event promises an incredible lineup of food, music, and cultural performances, showcasing the best of Canada. This free event is family-friendly, inviting visitors of all ages to experience the richness of Canadian culture.!”
National days can be a curious thing. Often they subtly record and remember division and deliverance from the control of another country (think USA Independence day) or the settlement of a country by an emigrant population with the subsequent native populations concern (think Australia Day). Division can be evident. However, Canada Day, appears to have escaped such concerns as far as I am aware and I have seen it joyfully embraced in Canada by all the races who reside there.
Thus, celebration of Canada day is embraced by all Canada diaspora and in Britain one of the best places to do so is in Trafalgar square on the Saturday nearest to the 1 st . July. Interestingly, this is a significant location for Canadians, overlooked since 1923 by the Canadian High Commission. However, Trafalgar Square’s celebration only begun in 2005 being launched by the Canadian business community in London, being taken over by the High commission.
