After months and months of waking with a sense of not having slept well and spending the days trying not to fall asleep, I was starting to wonder what was going on. Seeking out a doctor for sleep apnea treatment was a good idea, even though I was worried about what I might find out.
When he sent me to a sleep specialist I really started to worry. Finding out that I would need to take a sleep test, requiring me to be connected to a bunch of different monitors to keep tabs on my heart rate, muscles and eye movement, brain activity and breathing was really almost too much. Once I got used to the idea, though, I felt ready for the overnight test.
It wasn't as bad as I expected. I was surprised that I was able to fall asleep. And when the results came back declaring that I had sleep apnea I was both nervous and relieved. I was worried about what lie ahead and grateful that I finally knew what I needed to start treating.
