American tenor saxophonist, George Garzone, had been somewhat of an underground legend amongst jazz aficionados, and particularly saxophonists, and is now more widely regarded as one of the music world’s most creative and influential players. Although he has remained based in Boston, Garzone has performed all over the world during his long and illustrious career. He is also renowned as a teacher, and his former student roster reads like a who’s who of the modern saxophone – Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Teadross Avery, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Danilo Pérez and Australian saxophonists Julien Wilson and Jamie Oehlers are just some of his many students.
