Our History UWE Bristol was originally the Bristol Polytechnic in the 1970s. It gained university status in 1992, becoming the University of the West of England. Until now, we have over 30000 students across three campuses . As a new teaching university, our courses are practical to make sure our graduates are ready to work. In addition to our strong industrial links with over 7,000 employers, we have embedded working elements into our curriculum.
