At Windermere, it is tradition every June that for a day we close our office doors and give back to our community. This year we are excited to host our second annual community challenge, Windermere’s Walk for a Cause. Where five teams will lace up their walking shoes to help raise money for their team’s organization.
Since the beginning, Mirror Ministries has had a vision of building and opening a home for local and regional survivors of sex trafficking. Through our drop-in Outreach Center, we have helped survivors leave exploitation, start new jobs, get back to school or start college. Mikey’s Chance is named for a dog called Mikey – a big, friendly black Labrador whose people abandoned him. He spent several months in a cramped kennel in an overcrowded shelter, slowly losing hope. At last a rescue worker heard of his plight and found him a foster home – but she was too late. On the very day she arrived to fetch him, Mikey had growled at shelter workers, likely as a result of kennel stress, and was deemed potentially dangerous. He was euthanized that very day.
