The Worshipful Company of Firefighters Fire Lecture returned to an in-person format on November 16th. The lecture was held in the intimate surroundings of The Old Library in the Lloyd’s of London Building.
The theme of the event was prompted by the international response to the earthquake in Turkey earlier this year. We wanted to explore the organisation and deployment of the UK response to this tragedy. We were delighted to be joined by Mr Selcuk Gedikli from the Turkish Embassy.
Our three speakers were drawn from the UK International Search and Rescue Team (UKISAR). They were Nick Searle, National Fire Chiefs Council Strategic Lead for UKISAR. David O'Neill, recently retired as Assistant Commissioner, Special Projects, London Fire Brigade, who led the deployment to the recent incident in Turkey and Jim Chaston, Kent Fire & Rescue Service, who was deployed to Turkey as part of the UKISAR team.
