Built in 1925 as The North Walbottle Miners Welfare Institute, the Centre was, and still is known locally as “The Tute”. Managed by the Association since 1977, the Community Centre serves the residents of Westerhope in the west of Newcastle upon Tyne and adjacent communities. As well as offering sport, leisure and educational opportunities, the Centre has long been a meeting place where residents can have a say in matters affecting the community.
