Description: Heredia Travel Guide, Costa Rica
Located only 11km north of San José, Heredia could be a million miles from Costa Rica's dusty capital city. Moving to its own rhythm, surrounded by breath taking volcanoes and sprinkled with colonial charm, this is one location which should not be missed off any travel intinerary.
Founded in 1706, Heredia city centres itself around the aptly named Parque Central which is a chilled out place to watch the world go by. It's also worth visiting "La Iglesia de la Inmacualda Concepción", a sturdy church built in 1797 which has withstood numerous earthquakes, unlike many other Costa Rican buildings.
Heredia is also home to the National University (UNA) which means that it houses a buzzing, young student population both on and off campus.
