Williamson County was named for Robert McAlpin Williamson, lawmaker, judge, and soldier. As a young man, Robert suffered an illness which caused his right leg to be bent backward at the knee. The use of a wooden leg, from the knee to the ground allowed him to walk but also gave him the nick-name “Three Legged Willie”.
