In August 2019, I traded the American Midwest for bustling Hong Kong. What I found was a city brimming with diversity, passion and stories. (And of course, dim sum.)
I am currently a video journalist at AFP’s Hong Kong bureau—with my duties split between the video desk and master control room (MCR) for live video. This dual position intertwines the desk’s video production demands with the technical aspects of live news infrastructure.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media communication from the University of Nebraska before heading to the University of Hong Kong to begin work on a Master of Journalism. I graduated in July 2020. This time in Hong Kong has exposed me to protest coverage, political crackdowns and the frontline of health reporting.
