On Tuesday, we ran a write-up on Alasdair Rae’s maps of English metropolitan locations, in which we checked out the various levels of coherence visible in different municipal regions.
What we disregarded, however, is that the 4 northern locations are in fact beside each other. Somehow they make up a solitary urban region, extending throughout the Pennines from Liverpool to Wakefield: the multi-centred metropolitan belt that George Osborne is intending to transform into his “northern powerhouse”.
