足かけ５年、人吉に通う事150日ほどで出遭い難い野鳥の典型と言われるヤマセミ約5万２千カット以上の画像を収録する事が出来た。それを通じて見えてきたのはただ一つ、「ヤマセミにとっての命は、綺麗で豊富な水量の川辺川・球磨川水系の流れ」に尽きる。これだけ多くのヤマセミ家族が人吉市界隈で繁殖を広げられているのも、ひとえに7年連続で水質日本一の川辺川がいつまでも豊富な水量である事、綺麗な球磨川の水量も常に豊富である事、並びにそれを守り続ける熊本県・人吉球磨エリアの人々の努力があってこそ。 更にここ2年の観察によると、今までヤマセミに関する文献や観察記録にはない興味深い生態・行動を静止画や動画で収録できている。これらがヤマセミと云うユニークで可愛い野鳥の学術的な研究に少しでも役立てば非常に嬉しい。
Yamasemi means one of Japanese wild bird Crested Kingfisher. Color is black & white. Size likes same as dove with a big crest. They live deep of the mountains area all over this country, so difficult to find out and photo-shooting. Yamasemi eats river-fish. They take it by diving catch from trees or hovering.
