Like so many of the Jamaican youth in the late 70’s and early 80’s, Kevin “Yvad” Davy was stricken by the reggae bug that Bob Marley and the Wailers had unleashed upon the world. Reggae was hitting its stride, exploding in Europe and cracking the Billboard Top 40 in the U.S. Just as Mr. Marley blazed his unlikely path from shantytown to the big time, Yvad was compelled to mirror his drive via his passion for singing about relevant, topical, and timely songs – and so it began.
As a teenager, Kevin “Yvad” Davy began his professional musical career when he left Spaulding in Central Jamaica and moved to Kingston. Carrying some clothes and his acoustic guitar, he eventually wound up at Tuff Gong records. The Marley family signed him and took him into their lives.
