In New Jersey, about 650,000 people struggle with hunger—approximately 1 in 13. This includes 175,000 children. And these numbers are rising. As part of the Devil’s overall strategy to reduce food insecurity across our communities, the Devils Youth Foundation is raising $80,000 during the Playoffs to support the installation of a refrigerator at the Fulton Street Shelter in Newark.
The United Community Corporation (UCC) was formed in 1964 in response to President Johnson’s declaration of the “Unconditional war on poverty.” UCC’s mission is to assist low-income, disadvantaged and at risk individuals and families, including seniors and youth, to become self-sufficient and self supporting; while enhancing their quality of life and standard of living.
